Abstract :
Since satellite image data is vast in quantity, it will be helpful to view or browse archived images from remote workstations or personal computers. Development and experimental results are reported on a simple Satellite Image Browse System using UNIX Workstations. The JPEG compression technology helps to reduce the image transmission time to less than 1/5 on a slow transmission line (9600 bps) without recognizable degradation. Further improvement in the speed of compression, decompression and viewing the images may be required when using faster lines (~64 Kbps)
