Abstract :
Following the results of discussions at an international working group on the limitations of the NOAA/AVHRR data and considering the existing processing techniques, the authors describe the specifications which are proposed for product levels and preprocessing in the OSS processing package. These specifications are defined for the Sahara-Sahel regions of Africa. With simulation results the authors also show that these specifications are strong enough to improve the accuracy of the AVHRR data, namely for the purpose of monitoring the land cover changes with the NDVI vegetation index derived from these data
