Abstract :
To overcome various potential degradation factors of the mobile cellular radio interface and to enable the maximum possible increase of the most important system parameters-the capacity gain and the spectral efficiency, a set of previously developed specific communication methods and radio interface architecture decisions are discussed. In particular, the joint use of analog pre-processing and digital post-processing of optimized spread spectrum signal formed with the use of acousto-electronic devices, as well as the implementation of the system resource management using acousto-optic devices are considered. Conclusive estimations have shown the potential ability of the proposed advanced radio interface architecture to satisfy the UMTS requirements
