Abstract :
In accordance with the aims of the COLOS project (conceptual learning of science), which is designed to promote the use of the potential of modern computer technology for a better and more direct approach towards intuitive presentation and understanding of basic concepts in science and technology, we describe a method to decide a student\´s main type of category. We explain the way in which the human interface of a CAT/CAL (computer aided teaching/learning) product must be designed with respect to this category, i.e. to define a "learning environment". We present some principles enabling one to adapt the software interfaces to the user.
