  • Abstract
    As the computer technology continues to grow and with significant advances in the quality and availability of software tools for the development of multimedia assets including 3D computer-rendered graphics, video, audio, and authoring software, educators continue to search for innovative and effective means for using computers and software tools in teaching. The establishment of the Conceptual Learning of Science (CoLoS) USA consortium represents a novel alternative approach to using computers in education. The CoLoS approach is based on mimicking nature and using fundamental principles and basic laws to teach physical sciences and engineering. We present an overview of the CoLoS approach, review some of the modules proposed by members of the CoLoS USA consortium, and demonstrate some of CAEMEs new interactive multimedia modules for physics, math, and engineering education. Specifically, the "Calculus Castle" (which is a 3D computer-rendered castle housing eight complete calculus lessons), the "Physics Museum" (which includes virtual laboratories for conducting some fundamental physics experiments), and the CD-ROM for electromagnetics are demonstrated.
