Abstract :
Integration of military network communication systems in airborne environments has proven to be challenging due to disparate communications technologies and a lack of standardized interfaces. In this paper, we outline some of the key issues and challenges confronting systems integrators in developing an airborne network. We explore low cost means to characterize system performance through Modeling and Simulation (M&S), where high-fidelity communications network models can be developed and assessed under a realistic and dynamic airborne environment. Additionally, we propose standard interfaces be adopted in military communication systems to promote the integration of existing and emerging technologies.
