Abstract
A survey with 691 valid responses from undergraduate students measured drinking norms and related behaviors at the 2007 Spring Foxfield Races. On average, the 365 students who drank at the races self-reported having 8.4 drinks at Foxfield, statistically higher than on typical weekend nights, at home football games, and on Halloween. Students perceive that their peers consume an average of 11.2 drinks, 2.8 greater than the actual drinkerspsila average. 46.9% of students experienced a negative consequence, most commonly hangovers (34.4%). Students are making safe transportation choices to Foxfield; however, eleven students reported driving home after drinking. Survey results indicate potential areas for promoting healthy behaviors at future events.
