Abstract :
MINDIS is an Esprit research project whose aim is the development of a novel Miniature Information Display System. The display engine is a high performance spatial light modulator (SLM) that uses antiferroelectric liquid crystal over a CMOS silicon backplane. The antiferroelectric material is chosen to take advantage of its fast-switching analogue grey scale. The active matrix silicon backplane is an excellent option for projection displays and direct-view reflective-mode displays. Three SME companies who are involved in the development of microdisplay systems, video projectors and helmet-mounted displays are involved in the programme
