Abstract
The Armstrong Electronics satellite interactive terminals (SITs) network system (marketed as Web-Sat) is the first of a new generation of low-cost products, enabling high speed, two-way Internet service via satellite. It is effectively a permanent two-way circuit designed to eliminate delay in logging on, downloading large files or surfing the net. It allows download speeds many times faster than a standard ISDN channel, without any terrestrial connection such as a telephone line, ISDN or leased line. It is a star system with a hub that can serve thousands of users within the footprint of the satellite. This enables data transfer in the forward direction at high bit rates, at the same time allowing the use of small DTH-type user terminals and readily available consumer electronics equipment
