Abstract :
This tutorial has three goals: (1) to explain and demystify the Internet and the World Wide Web; (2) to explore the vast wealth of resources available on the Web (if only one knew how to find them!); and (3) to examine how the Internet will become an essential component of the world´s emerging “knowledge economy”. The authors provide a brief history of the Internet and the evolution of the WWW, then explain how it operates and how information flows through it. They look at how you one profit from the information resources of the Web in such diverse areas as travel and leisure, investment and finance, shopping, medicine, real estate, museums, weather, education, computers, science and engineering, libraries and research, news and current events, research, finding people and keeping yourself informed. They discuss current research issues related to how the Internet will support information tools for an information age
