Abstract :
This tutorial discusses how some “intelligence” can be incorporated in sliding mode controllers by the use of computational intelligence methodologies in order to alleviate the well known problems met in practical implementations of sliding mode controllers. The paper presents an overview of the research and applications reported in the literature in this respect. Parallels are drawn between fuzzy control and VSS (variable structure systems) with a sliding mode
