Abstract
FreedomIPTM is an innovative satellite communication system proposed by Matra Marconi Space and Comtier. FreedomIPTM is the alternative to terrestrial networks answering the need for back-up, direct connection, data rates, convergence and cost optimization implied by the evolution of business and technology. The FreedomIPTM is a satellite wide area network, Intranet and Internet access technical solution based on TCP/IP. The system provides on-demand multimedia services to telecom carriers, value added services providers and corporations. The FreedomIPTM WAN utilizes most advanced proprietary technologies including signal modulation, power and bandwidth control together with the time division multiple access (TDMA) technique to maximize the use of the available space segment and ground system resources. It can be deployed in any combination of the mesh and star (hub) network configurations. The architecture is based on multi-frequency, multi-channel TDMA, which combines the benefits of frequency division multiple access (FDMA) and TDMA. The FreedomIPTM WAN is competitively priced to ensure the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for TCP/IP-based data and multimedia services
