  • Abstract
The present paper examines the correlation between academic discipline and the development of generic competencies among Hong Kong tertiary students in the “science and technology” (ST) & “non-science and technology” (NST) field. A total number of 758 ST and 1188 NST students had completed self-assessment questionnaires which were used to analyse the correlation between 14 generic competencies. The findings indicate that freshmen from selected academic disciplines possessed slight difference in generic skills. Such difference was further reduced when they graduated. In addition, the generic competencies among graduates in both disciplines had significant improvement after two-year associate degree studies.
