Abstract
The XUV radiation has been produced by focusing 5-fs high-intensity (/ = 2.3xl015 W/cm2) driving pulses with stable carrier envelope phase (CEP) in a cell filled with xenon at static pressure (2.5-3 torr). Figure 1(a) shows the XUV spectra acquired as a function of the CEP of the driving field: the spectral shape periodically changes for a CEP variation of π. The XUV spectra display an evolution from a continuous behavior to a modulated one, thus indicating that, depending on the CEP value, it is possible to generate an isolated pulse or a couple of pulses.
