Abstract :
A non standard Finite Element Method for the full-wave analysis of arbitrarily shaped inhomogeneous anisotropic waveguiding and transmission line structures is presented. The method employs a formulation in terms of either the electric field vector or the magnetic field vector, providing lower and upper bounds of the problem solution. The vectorial unknown is approximated employing edge elements for the transverse component of the field and Lagrange elements for the longitudinal one. This approach is shown to be preferable when compared to the standard ones. Numerical results for homogeneous and inhomogeneous waveguides and for general transmission lines are presented showing excellent accuracy and agreement with previous published results.
