Abstract :
Efficient and accurate operation of heavy machines with coordinated motion in multiple axes requires advanced computer-based control approaches to take advantage of the hardware performance. In this context, the development of appropriate human-machine interfaces (HMI) that meet the specific demands from both the human operator and the rough environmental conditions is a crucial point. The increasing complexity of such systems demands for extensive assistance in manual operation as well as for extensive monitoring. In this paper is presented the development of an adaptable human-machine interface for the operation and supervision of heavy machines demonstrated by a Cartesian controlled drilling boom. The distributed control approach make telemanipulation with variable interfaces, especially with a web-browser, possible. Also, the realisation of the monitoring concept and its implementation with Internet technologies is illustrated
