Abstract :
Driven by the Smart Grid concept, stakeholders have searched for inexpensive ways of enabling household devices for reliable remote control. Research in this area focuses on wired or wireless information transport where progress has been made in energy-efficiency, reduction of bandwidth usage and bringing standard Internet protocols to tiny embedded devices in order to create the Internet of Things. However, we have yet to see a viable application layer protocol that not only runs on resource constrained embedded hardware and satisfies demands by device vendors, but also remains compatible with established Internet standards. We propose a concept on application level to enable Smart Devices for remote control and management that remains independent from and compatible with common message trans-port protocols, thus bridging the Last Mile in a Smart Home on application level.
