Abstract
A tendency to creation of platform independent, JAVA-dedicated parser generators is observed. These tools could be divided into those extending the YACC family of tools and those created independently. Apart from the differences between the JAVA tools and its C/C++ predecessors, stemming from construction of target language, other differences may be observed, such as the accepted input grammar and the method of derivation of the parsing tree. A discussion of these differences is made. A comparison of the approaches used and extensions provided to the process of parser generation is made. Eventually, the question of the more effective parser generation approach and more extensible parser generation tool is addressed.
