Abstract :
The workload adaptation is a performance management process in autonomic database management system (DBMS). In the workload adaptation framework, the system monitoring component monitors the database resources consumption at SQL command level, and feed back the monitoring information to other related components in this framework. This paper analyzes the functional structure of the system monitoring component, and studies the implementation method. How to reduce the resources consumption of database induced by the monitoring component is partially considered in this paper. Experiments with Oracle 10 are conducted to show the effectiveness of the design and implementation.
