Abstract :
This paper presents and discusses results from a global survey on integration of variable energy resources (VERs) in power systems. 33 operators of electric power systems in 18 countries were surveyed about the strategies and decision support tools now in place in their control centers. The survey respondents combined have wind power capacity of 141 GW or 72% of the total installed wind capacity in the world. The findings are a first-hand global account of how VERs, especially wind generation, is affecting grid operations based on views from the operators and engineers in control rooms around the world.
