Abstract :
This paper describes R&D on millimeter wave systems under discussions and standardization activities at IEEE 8082.15.3c. The system is for WPAN (wireless PAN) supposed to transmit 2 Gbps (or higher) mandatory and 3 Gbps (or higher) optionally both at PHY-SAP (service access point). The subcommittee has been getting into final stage for standardization, and has voted for selecting 9 candidates out of 11 at the latest meeting in San Francisco in June, 2007. The next meeting will be focusing on merger and selection in Hawaii in September, 2007. Current selected usage models are composed of video streaming and information down/up loading both in point to point communications as mandatory for PHY simulations. Channel models have been adopted for including these two usage models and composed of both LOS (line of sight) and NLOS (non line of sight) environments for video streaming and LOS for information down/up loading. Air interfaces proposed so far include single carrier and OFDM.
