Abstract
The authors introduce an intelligent forecasting support system to assist an auditor in assessing audit risks. In practice, auditors make judgments by using their expertise and experiences when performing this task. However, the lack of systematic and consistent criteria for risk assessment can prevent auditors from determining the risk factors in an effective and/or efficient manner. An artificial neural network is known for its ability to learn, generalize, and categorize data. An expert system can provide explanation of results. By applying these two technologies, this combined system can help auditors perform risk assessment tasks more systematically and consistently.<>
