Abstract
The problem of minimum weight design of simple and multi-stage spur gear trains has always been the emphasis of the engineering research. Especially under the requests of high transmission efficiency and reliability, the optimum design for the gears has a wide application. The paper presents an advanced optimization algorithm as simulated annealing (SA) to find the optimal combination of design parameters for minimum weight of gears. For the application on an example, the results of the proposed algorithms are comparing with the previously common genetic results. It is observed that the proposed algorithm can offer better design solutions.
