Abstract :
The authors performed a series of experiments on phase locking up to 25 fiber lasers. The results shows that the average fringe visibility decreases with array size, but the maximal fringe visibility remains high. The fringe visibility is relatively poor except for rare events where most lasers share a common longitudinal mode as shown in the insets. The results also show how the fluctuations in the fringe visibility are distributed in accordance with the Gumbel distribution.
