Abstract :
The authors present a method of resolving the problem of the identification of an observed object among a set of known objects. Objects are described by nuanced information, which is information that is incomplete, imprecise, uncertain, or fuzzy. The authors´ approach uses possibility theory and fuzzy sets. It includes a general model for nuanced information representation, an original identification method using a thesaurus to generate most of the characteristic functions required for the possibility theory, and a progressive process
