Abstract
This paper presents a new method for the identification and classification of transients due to synchronised capacitor switching in three-phase systems. Signal processing techniques are introduced to detect the switching actions in the individual phases. Synchronised switching methods for capacitor energisation are considered. The proposed method enables detection and classification of synchronised capacitor switching events. This in turn will lead to a reduction in the amount of data to be reported from a power quality survey
