Abstract :
In this paper we present a comparison between the first erbium-doped and ytterbium-doped Al2O3 single frequency distributed feedback (DFB) channel waveguide lasers. The 1480-nm-pumped Al2O3:Er3+ DFB laser exhibits a threshold of 15 mW launched pump power and a maximum laser output power of more than 3 mW at the maximum available pump power of 67 mW.
