Abstract
General electronic musical instruments store some sampled modules per one octave for an instrument in the memory, and generate other sounds by the pitch shifting technique. We proposed a method to reduce the number of sampled sound modules for pitch shifting. In this method, we compared an original sound with the pitch-shifted sound at the same pitch, and calculated the average error. The error of our method was less than that of an existing method. We have tested two cases; a simple sine wave and real sound samples for a piano. As a result, we could reduce the number of sampled sound modules which should be stored and the required memory space in the electronic musical instrument
