Abstract :
The preliminary design study of the superconducting magnet system for the Fusion Experimental Reactor (FER) is in progress. The technical specifications and the design concepts of the 12-T toroidal-field coil system, the 12-T central-solenoid coil system, and the 7-T equilibrium-field coil system (all of which satisfy the technical requirements of the superconducting magnet system of the FER) are described. The results of electrical and mechanical analyses of the coil system obtained in the preliminary stage are consistent with the design of the other components of the machine. However, in magnet design and analysis, there are many assumptions which have to be clarified through actual hardware experiments such as the Large Coil Task
