Abstract :
This paper presents a series AC voltage conditioner employing a voltage source inverter connected between the source and the load, and controlled by a dead beat technique to obtain a regulated sinusoidal load voltage. The series connection allows a reduced rated power, in the same order of the voltage regulation required. The proposed conditioner needs a rated power of only 0.2 p.u. for a voltage regulation/filtering of a maximum of 0.2 p.u. A digital feedback control method is used to obtain a high quality sinusoidal load voltage by sampling both the source and load voltages and, with an appropriate control law, generating the command signals for the inverter. This approach allows the compensator to filter out most of the harmonic contents of the source voltage, up to the cutoff frequency of the inverter´s output filter. The goal is to achieve a high quality load voltage, with very low THD, even under transient conditions, by means of a dead beat control technique. This paper includes detailed mathematical analysis, operating principles and simulation results for a 1.1 kVA prototype
