  • Abstract
Low threshold organic microcavity lasers may find a broad range of applications from usage in integrated telecommunication circuits to lab-on-a-chip devices. For sensing applications, pedestal cavities are advantageous due to a higher evanescent wave interaction with the surrounding medium leading to a higher sensitivity. The authors present a simple technology of pedestal cavity manufacturing and discuss the significant emission enhancement and threshold decrease, starting from the reference Fabry-Perot and extending to more elaborate cavity contours which sustain whispering gallery modes (disk, square, stadium).
