Abstract
Existing calculations of lightning overvoltage are based on double exponential impulses. In fact, damped oscillatory impulses are closer to the actual status than double exponential impulses. An experimental study of corona characteristics under unipolar oscillation impulses is described in this paper which exposed the change rule of q-u curves by changing parameter of waveshape. It also explains the origin of error in lightning overvoltage calculation based on q-u characteristics of double exponential impulses.
