Abstract :
This paper describes a control method for a three phase five-level PWM converter that is used as a DC power source for five-level inverters for AC drives. The proposed control circuit uses multiband hysteresis comparators to simplify control of the main circuit. The proposed method can (1) overcome voltage imbalance in the DC capacitors, (2) achieve a unity power factor, (3) generate nearly sinusoidal input currents, and (4) regenerate electric power back to the power system. Simulations were carried out using PSIM to verify the proposed control method. The results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method
