Abstract
The paper describes the results of several studies performed by the Active Antennas Section of Alenia Spazio on antenna systems, particularly active phased arrays for space SAR applications onboard small satellites. The research has been focused on various aspects, from the whole antenna system to the radiating elements. Design procedures have been developed in order to optimize the most critical aspects of a space active antenna. Simulations have been carried out exploiting either theoretical assumptions and already realized equipment.
