Abstract
Reports on the development at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) of a Cold Emitter Solid State Device, dubbed COEED (COld Electron Emitter Device). For the past 100 years, thermionic emitters served electronic designs in a certain love/hate relationship rather uniquely. But there are now, through advancements in solid state technology, opportunities for cold emitter developments which allow for much improved system integration in conjunction with modern solid state designs.
