Image capture and automatic identification of vehicle registration plates

This paper provides a summary of the work we have undertaken to date in the application of automatic number plate reading using image recognition techniques. It will chart progress from the early site trials to the latest application involving the production of a full violation record, its transmission to a remote centre and interface to an established account management facility able to process high volumes of violation records
