Abstract :
CPI, Inc. developed a production version of the 150 MW pulsed S-band klystron. The unit is based on a prototype originally developed by SLAC for DESY. CPl´s goal was to develop a klystron with improved product reliability, manufacturable for a reasonable price, and exhibiting similar or improved electrical performance. CPI compare the newly designed klystron assemblies with the old design, showing how design for assembly/design for manufacture (DFA/DFM) techniques were used to reduce piece part count and lower the fabrication costs. Computer analysis data, cold test data, and hot-test data will also be presented to show current, expected, and actual performance.
