Abstract :
The electromagnetic properties of a cold unicomponent plasma medium affected by crossed static fields are investigated. The expressions for the constitutive parameters in the Post representation are derived. The influence of the static electric field leads to the appearance of magnetoelectric coupling. This effect is investigated for the gyroelectric medium in parallel fields. It is shown that such a medium belongs to the class of Faraday chiral media conceptualized earlier as heterogeneous mixtures consisting of gyrotropic and chiral components. The difference between wave phenomena in usual gyrotropic media and in plasmas in parallel static fields is investigated for plane wave propagation across the distinguished axis. The solutions of the dispersion equation representing two kinds of elliptically polarized eigenwaves are found explicitly. The degeneracy of the wave equation is discussed
