Abstract :
This contribution presents recent developments of a new theory of complex waves in inhomogeneous lossless dielectric guides [1]. Based on this theory, simple formulae are derived which allow one to predict the presence and the frequency band of complex waves in slightly inhomogeneous guides. Several criteria for the existence of complex waves are given. The derived results are verified against the published data.
