Abstract :
It is no doubt that modern design needs to be more humanistic and more emotional. But it seems to be a conflict in modern design: on one side, globalization makes it more unified; on the other side, the consumers need diversification of design. Modern design should be more unified or diversified? People tried to solve the problem by the thought of HE but not TONG said by Confucius, but the real relationship of HE and TONG is also a problem. In fact, it is not conflictive between the unification and diversification of modern design if it is discussed on different levels. In this paper, the author discussed the three levels of modern design through an Asian food culture research case named Chopsticks. And the conclusion is that in the information age, modern design is basing on a unified order on technology level, being formed in diversified cultures on aesthetic level, and developing toward the kernel value of `people centered¿ on ethic level.
