Abstract
GnomeView is a graphical user interface to information generated by the Human Genome Project. Its central data organization and conceptual themes are pictorial representations of genomic maps. The methods used to preserve pictorial representations and achieve database integration are presented here. The current version of GnomeView is a database browser and integration tool for two major genomic databases: GDB (Genome Data Base), which provides chromosome data, and GenBank, which provides DNA sequence data. GnomeView is presently undergoing extended beta testing.<>
