Abstract :
The authors present the design and implementation of a network management system (NMS) capable of monitoring an Ethernet/IEEE 802.3-based, multivendor, multiprotocol network. This NMS currently provides notification of cable plant, network component, and node failures. However, as the system was designed it became apparent that network and computer statistics, network design, and parts inventory could also be incorporated into the system. Features described include the database, the graphics workstation, information logging, and artificial intelligence. Future plans for this system are described
