Abstract :
A high-power, long-pulse, high-voltage power supply (HVPS) for the MNI-1U neutral beam injector (NBI) is described. This HVPS is used as a switching regulator with a duty cycle of 1/100. The specifications of the circuit are as follows: 50-kV output pulse voltage, 30-A pulse current, 50-ms pulse width, less than 25-μs voltage risetime and falltime, better than 0.5% pulse flat stability, and less than 30-μs attainable regulation response time of the pulse voltage. The power supply is also used as a stable DC HVPS, with an output voltage of 1 to 100 kV and a current of 1 to 5 A. If a regulation tube is shunted with a high-power resistor in parallel, the current can be extended to 10 A and the stability of the output voltage or current is better than 0.1%. The HVPS has been put into operation for the MNI-1U NBI and a PIG ion source
