Abstract :
We demonstrate the next milestone in this field-the fabrication of apodized FBGs inscribed in a PbP fashion. The technique of FBG profile apodization (which consists of´softening´ or eliminating the discrete ends of a uniform FBG) is necessary in a variety of applications including WDM communications and sensing systems, narrow-linewidth fiber lasers and some Q-switched fiber laser systems.
