  • Abstract
To study the influence of femtosecond-laser irradiation on wettability in PMMA, static contact angle measurements were performed before and after the laser processing. To ablate PMMA, 150-fs pulses from an 800-nm, 1-kHz Ti:Sapphire laser were focused by a 10-cm focal length lens (spot size, 2 w0 ~ 20 μm) on the sample surface. We applied a multiscan procedure (scan velocity 2 mm/s) to form a larger ablated area of 4 mm x 4 mm to accommodate the size of the water droplet used in the contact angle measurement.
