Abstract
The principle goal of the program is to replace the existing gun with one of contemporary design utilizing the latest advances in materials, manufacturing and assembly techniques, and a dispenser cathode and micropump. Since the new gun is designed to be a replacement for the existing gun, it is important that the new design provide the same beam optics performance. An important task of the program was to perform a detailed thermal and stress analysis of the existing gun in order to fully characterize its configuration within the tube at operating temperature.
