Abstract
Wireless local area networks (WLAN) promise to be widely deployed in a short time, because they provide wire free connections with ease and with much higher transmission rates than current cellular systems. However, security holes have been identified in the operation of WLANs. The 802.11i protocol has been announced to protect the WLAN application area. However, there are still security issues such as a denial-of-service attack which can exhaust the clientpsilas memory using the vulnerability of a key derivation procedure in 802.11i. In this paper, the cookie mechanism is adopted to derive a solution to providing the required keys in a secure manner. We define a solution for our key derivation for 802.11i by providing encryption which can mitigate the denial-of-service attack in 802.11i.
