Abstract
Hochschule fur Gestaltung Ulm, which was built in the mid 20th century, is like ¿A big laboratory¿ in the open, active and conflicting field of design. As design is increasingly becoming the focus and the frontier discipline in the industrial society, the innate crack between art and design inside the institute emerged, until the word ¿Art¿ became an implicit taboo of the institute. These conflicts, however, are the previous discussion and clarification of certain basic ambiguity for Chinese design education, where both the opportunity and problem co-exist. Because of the value of the Ulm model, it indeed is the mirrors that is able to solve the dilemma in Chinese design discipline whether it is related to ¿Advantages or disadvantages, gains or loss¿.
