Abstract :
A radar has been built to demonstrate Focal Plane Array Technology using a novel I.F. monopulse processor which is particularly appropriate to multibeam staring antennas. The front end of the radar consists of an array of thin film combined dipoles and receivers mounted on a lens such that each receiver produces a beam in the far field of the lens. Sixteen receivers are used to give a four by four cluster of beams. The outputs from these beams are fed to an I.F. network which combines them in such a way as to give three levels of monopulse outputs. A wide field of view with a coarse tracking slope can be selected, or a narrow field of view with a more accurate tracking slope, and also an intermediate state.
