Abstract :
Pedestrian evacuation simulation has many important applications. For example, based on the pedestrian evacuation simulation results one can predict the evacuation time and evaluate the performances of pedestrian facilities. This paper derives a mathematical model for the pedestrian evacuation based on fuzzy logic. In this fuzzy model for the pedestrian evacuation, each pedestrian¿s behavior is linguistically depicted by some simple qualitative physical and psychological laws. These qualitative laws are then transformed into a quantitative mathematical model using a fuzzy modeling approach. The evacuation simulation results based on the proposed fuzzy model are consistent with the observed phenomena for the pedestrian evacuation. Moreover, the simulations show that the parameters involved in the proposed fuzzy model have prominent influences on the evacuation time and dynamical features of pedestrian evacuation.
